Experimental moment arm data for the primary wrist (ECRL, ECRB, ECU, FCR, FCU) and extrinsic thumb (APL, FPL, EPL, EPB) muscles are provided under the "Wrist & Thumb Moment Arm Data" section. These data include moment arms for the nonimpaired wrist as well as the wrist following proximal row carpectomy (PRC) and scaphoid-excision four-corner fusion (SE4CF). The "Limited Data PRC" and "Limited Data SE4CF" models were developed to examine whether models based on limited experimental data and many assumptions could predict changes in wrist muscle moment arms following surgery. Note that the nonimpaired model is not provided, as it is available through the “Upper Extremity Kinematic Model” project (https://simtk.org/home/up-ext-model). Please read the provided citations to understand the assumptions and limitations of the provided models. Note: All models were developed in SIMM v. 6.0.2. Accuracy of model import into other software platforms has not been verified.
Limited Data PRC Models
PRC models and bone files developed in SIMM. Two joint files (.jnt) are included: (1) PRC (capitate spacing) assumes wrapping surfaces maintain spacing relative to the capitate and (2) PRC (radius spacing) assumes wrapping surfaces maintain spacing relative to radius. The provided muscle file (.msl) is compatible with both joint files. See comments at the beginning of each file and the cited publication for additional details.

Kinematic models of proximal row carpectomy (PRC) developed in SIMM v. 6.0.2. These models are based on several assumptions and limited experimental data. Please refer to the cited manuscripts to understand the limitations of these models. All implemented modeling decisions are documented in the comments at the beginning of the .jnt and .msl files.  View License

Limited Data SE4CF Models
SE4CF models and bone files developed in SIMM. Two joint files (.jnt) are included: (1) SE4CF (proximal axes) assumes wrist axes of rotation are equivalent to those of the proximal row and (2) SE4CF (distal axes) assumes wrist axes of rotation are equivalent to those of the distal row. The provided muscle file (.msl) is compatible with both joint files. See comments at the beginning of each file and the cited publication for additional details.

Wrist & Thumb Moment Arm Data
Average moment arm versus joint angle curves are summarized for the nonimpaired, PRC, and SE4CF conditions. Moment arms of the primary wrist (ECRL, ECRB, ECU, FCU, FCR) and extrinsic thumb (EPL, EPB, APL, FPL) muscles were experimentally measured in cadaveric specimens using the tendon-excursion method. For details on the experiment, please refer to the cited publications.
