A developer's workshop covering the upcoming release of the OpenSim 2.0 API will be held at Stanford University Wednesday-Friday, October 28-30, 2009. This an opportunity to learn about how OpenSim is constructed and how to build on this foundation to meet your research and laboratory goals. On the first day, a brief architectural overview of OpenSim and commonly used SimTK libraries (e.g. Simbody) will be provided. In particular, we will describe OpenSim model components such as bodies, joints, constraints, forces, and controllers and demonstrate how to assemble these components into working models in coding exercises in the form of small main programs.

The second and third days will be devoted to building and interacting with models programmatically including the development of custom components and analysis plug-ins. For example, you might want to create a new joint based on your characterization of joint motion from MRI or fluoroscopy studies of the knee, shoulder etc... , or implement a new muscle model or optimization criteria. Additional options include applying multiple external loads and contact forces as well as writing your own controller. You will have the opportunity to work in small groups on your development goals with OpenSim developers.

Please let us know which components of OpenSim you would like to see covered and what specific development objectives you will pursue. The success of the workshop highly depends on the specific development project you choose and the likelihood of completing it in the time alloted. We will ask you to present your goals and expected outcomes at the beginning of the workshop and to demo your code to the group at the end.

Registration is limited to 10 developers. C++ or equivalent programming experience and a grasp of object-oriented concepts are required.

We will limit the workshop to 10 participants, so please register soon.
