From jenhicks at stanford.edu Tue Jun 6 09:43:49 2017 From: jenhicks at stanford.edu (Jennifer Hicks) Date: Tue, 6 Jun 2017 09:43:49 -0700 Subject: [Opensim-announcement] Call for Applications: NCSRR/OpenSim Pilot Projects 2017 Message-ID: The National Center for Simulation in Rehabilitation Research (NCSRR) and OpenSim project at Stanford University seek proposals for our pilot project program. The program awards seed grants to innovative and meritorious projects that will accelerate the use of simulation in rehabilitation research. Our intent is to engage rehabilitation research experts to demonstrate the use of biomechanical simulations in novel areas and to help enhance the OpenSim software for rehabilitation science. Pilot project awardees may request funding up to $40,000 for their research. Awards have historically ranged between $20,000 and $40,000. In addition, the program launches awardees into leadership roles within the NCSRR network. Projects should have a strong scientific component and demonstrate a clear alignment with the NCSRR?s mission . Research proposals (up to 3 pages) should provide a scientific description of the project to be performed and convey the impact on rehabilitation and the biomechanical simulation community. Applications must also include a description of funding and other support requested. More information and the application packet can be found at the following website: http://opensim.stanford.edu/support/pilot.html All application materials must be received by midnight PDT on July 29, 2017. Winners will be announced in October 2017 with funding to start in late 2017. 1) Written proposals and supporting materials should be sent electronically, preferably as a single PDF, to opensim at stanford.edu 2) You must also complete the online application/registration form . We look forward to reviewing another excellent set of proposals for the pilot project program. In the morning session, participants will be introduced to OpenSim's models and tools by computing joint contact forces and conducting an analysis of a drop landing based on experimental data. In the afternoon advanced session, participants will evaluate ankle inversion injury risk in a drop landing and learn to use the OpenSim API and Matlab interface. Learn more about the workshop. Apply for an OpenSim Pilot Project Grant up to $40,000 Applications Due July 29, 2017 The National Center for Simulation in Rehabilitation Research (NCSRR) and OpenSim project at Stanford seek proposals for our pilot project program. OpenSim Workshop at TGCS 2017 There is still time to register for the ISB Technical Group on Computer Simulation (TGCS) that will be held in the Gold Coast, Australia. The OpenSim team at Stanford University will lead a three-hour workshop during TGCS on July 20, 2017, where participants will learn how to use the Matlab scripting interface with OpenSim 4.0 through hands-on tutorials. We hope you'll join us. OpenSim 4.0 Interactive Tutorial at ISB 2017 There is also still time to register for the 26th Congress of the International Society of Biomechanics (ISB) taking place July 23-27, 2017 in Brisbane, Australia. The OpenSim team will lead an interactive hands-on tutorial at this conference on building muscle-driven simulations and will present key new features of OpenSim 4.0. The teaching team includes Scott Delp, Jennifer Hicks, James Dunne, Chris Dembia, Carmichael Ong, Jennifer Yong, and Apoorva Rajagopal. Learn more about the workshop. OpenSim Research Symposium at ISB 2017 The OpenSim team will also be conducting a research symposium during ISB in Brisbane, Australia. The symposium will highlight the latest research from leaders in the field of musculoskeletal modeling and simulations, and close with a discussion about the challenges and opportunities for using OpenSim in biomechanics research. Speakers include Brian Umberger from the University of Massachusetts, Colin Smith from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, Chris Dembia from Stanford University, and Adrian Lai from Simon Fraser University. We hope you'll join us. --- Joy P.
