Modeling & simulation update. 1. Decide immediate action items for next meeting. 1. Other. '''Immediate Action Items:''' * Ahmet * Reach out to SOFA forums about compilation of haptic library (SOFA-HAPI). * Ensure human subjects testing status with US Army is up-to-date. * Tyler * Contact painter to complete painting of in vitro testing room. * Send Robb the dimensions of testing conditions for surgical tool force characterization. * Specify UltraHD cameras and monitors for in vitro testing room. * Continue writing specifications for in vitro experimentation. * Ben * Order computer for new lab member. * Tara * Complete tasks related to force data collection software based on notes from mock sessions. * Robb * Determine appropriate load cell for instrumentation of surgical tools. '''Notes:''' 1. Discuss immediate action items from past meetings. * All action items were related to the recurring agenda items; refer to discussions below. 1. Readiness for in vivo testing. * A mock up session was conducted and the group reviewed the notes. Most of the issues were related to minor convenience features for data collection software and reminders for Tammy. All data files (force data and ultrasound image sets) were successfully associated using the Python script developed by Tyler. * Official testing will likely begin on Wednesday August 24, 2016. 1. In vitro testing setup and specifications. * The group reviewed MRI scans from previous session to determine favorable specifications. These scans were obtained on a small bore 7 Tesla MRI on a multi-layer tissue sample. Knowledge gained from this experience may help setting up imaging sequences on the large bore 3 Tesla magnet. The T2 weighted without fat suppression (scan 26) was the most favorable followed by T1 weighted without fat suppression. Image acquisition times should be considered for future implementations. * The in vitro testing room is almost ready for painting. Once completed, Tyler will begin populating room with necessary equipment to perform testing, beginning with digital video collection system and Optotrak integration. * Sample force data were collected using surgical tools to identify expected load ranges during surgical actions. Tyler documented these in the wiki. Robb will follow up to identify load transducers to acquire. 1. Modeling & simulation update. * Ahmet did not reach out to SOFA forums in regard to SOFA-HAPI compilation. * Ahmet tried to compile !PyMesh without success. !PyMesh may be useful for model generation as it allows working with tetrahedral and hexahedral meshes. * Ben was out-of-office; his updates will be discussed in the next meeting. 1. Other. * Ahmet discussed importance of removing headers in ultrasound and MR images when displaying images of subjects. While subject identifiers were not necessarily entered during imaging, this practice will help ensure anonymization and removal of clutter during image display.
