Notes:
- Discuss immediate action items from the last meeting.
- Jason briefly discussed his action items. Details are provided in relevant topics described below.
- Tara provided additional details and links to the specimen preparation page.
- Robb reported that Dylan will order small heaters for the temperature controlled saline bath that will be used during tissue testing.
- Notes from the last meeting were discussed.
- There has not been any contact from Biomomentum, Inc. about the tissue testing device. The team assumes everything is on schedule.
- Dylan is writing up a report about his troubleshooting of the Optotrak two-camera accuracy.
- The surgeon(s) need to be contacted soon for scheduling experimentation in late February and/or early March, to help the first of Open Knee(s) testing.
- An aside, Ahmet had an interview with Crain's Business Cleveland. An Open Knee(s) related article, driven by its open source nature, may be published in an upcoming issue.
- Update from imaging trial session and finalization of imaging specifications.
- Jason and Craig discussed the transportation device. A workflow was made to describe the process and was added to the wiki. Jason will update the text to reflect the discussion and the proposed workflow. Essentially, details need to be added related to maintaining cleanliness, the required tools and the duffel bag (to carry the specimen) location, etc.
- Craig summarized the test image session and updated the imaging specifications page to include an "OAI style" summary of the acquisition settings. All fields in the table need to be completed. The imaging contacts at the University Hospitals will be asked about image settings and how to interpret the DICOM header data (to populate the unknown image parameters). The team still needs to establish the consistency of coordinate frames for each set of acquisition parameters. Craig proposes that we decide on the echo time parameter for the MESE settings, especially if it is an acquisition type that will be used.
- Images from last week's test session were viewed. The phantoms were discussed first and it appears none of the candidate materials caused significant distortion/noise in the image set. The knee images appear does not appear to be what the team was expecting. Craig and/or Jason will talk with Shannon at the University Hospitals to verify and acquire the correct image sets. The group (Ahmet, Jason, and/or Craig) will meet later in the week to decide on the final image settings.
- Following the resolution of candidate materials, a design for the plugs (the male and female hardware to mount the Optotrak markers) needs to be decided on and manufactured. For the tibia and femur, at least two base plugs need to be manufactured. For the patella, a base plug plus the attachment device (the female component) with the brass alignment pins will be manufactured according to the previous design. For completeness, Tara and Craig will test the patella attachment assembly to qualify its use during imaging. There is concern that it will not fit in the transport device for imaging, especially for larger knees. For next week, an approach will be proposed, which may include a re-design of the fixture of patella registration markers.
- Update on pressure measurement system evaluation and related purchase list.
- The group discussed pressure measurement needs and the available hardware/software from Tekscan, Inc. At a minimum, the team will order the software upgrade and 5 new 5051 sensors. Robb and Jason will outline and potentially execute (using the old software) an approach for equilibration and calibration. The foot testing bladder system (capable of up to 87 psi) will be used for equilibration and plastic spheres will be used for calibration. Tara will place the order for the software and sensors. Robb and Tara will decide whether the SDK should also be purchased for future testing. Adoption of the SDK software will require an investment, i.e., the design and integration into the current workflow, which precludes its use for the first round of testing. "Manual" acquisition of pressures will be adopted during the testing of the first Open Knee(s) specimen. Future testing could integrate this capability if it is deemed worthwhile.
- Update on manufacturing of remaining accessories for joint and tissue testing.
- Robb and Ahmet need to talk about the camera calibration and a redesign of the environment tank for the tissue testing. They will setup a meeting to discuss.
- Discuss progress on specimen preparation specifications.
- Tara discussed the specimen preparation page. She will start responding to the questions provided by others on this page. The group needs to continue editing/viewing this page for completeness.
- Related, specifications for registration should be edited, at least the input-output requirements, to ensure that the desired data are acquired to accomplish the registration task.
- Discuss progress of all other tasks.
- No other tasks were discussed.
- Decide immediate action items for the next meeting.
- Ahmet summarized the Immediate Action Items (see above). The team agreed that the tasks were appropriate.
- Other.
- None.
