Immediate Action Items:

  • Robb
    • Summarize the protocol on equilibration in pressure calibration specifications wiki page.
    • Attempt pressure sensor calibration (using a foam material).
    • Send the team a finalized design of patella marker assembly for review.
  • Snehal
    • Respond requests in the infrastructure page of tissue testing experimentation.
    • Respond requests in tissue sample preparation pages.
    • Reach out to Shannon (from imaging facility) to acquire imaging settings from sessions from November 14, 2013, January 29, 2014 and February 17, 2014.
    • Get imaging data from Shannon (from imaging facility) from January 29, 2014 session.
    • Try to find another knee specimen for next imaging trial.
    • Set up another imaging trial.
  • Craig
    • Compare all T1 weighted images (from all imaging trial sessions and from previous work) and summarize the information on imaging specifications page.
    • Compare all 3D DESS images (from all imaging trial sessions) and summarize the information on imaging specifications page.
    • Compare the MESE images (from all imaging trial sessions) and summarize the information.
  • Ahmet
    • Provide the notes from February 17, 2014 full mock-up trial imaging session in the imaging specifications wiki page.
    • Promote community review of specimen and joint testing specifications through Biomch-L.
  • Cara
    • Add the team to SimTk project site on general purpose data management approaches.

    • Summarize Open Knee related data management information on the relevant wiki page.
  • Snehal and Craig
    • Dissect the current knee specimen to assess tissue condition, cartilage thickness (wait till another test specimen is acquired).

Notes:

  1. Discuss immediate action items from the last meeting.
    • Robb and Dylan worked on the pressure sensor equilibration and will summarize the trial on the pressure calibration specifications page. An attempt of calibration will also be made using foam samples.
    • Robb received a version of the three-dimensional model of the patella marker assembly. Once the design is agreed upon by the team, the marker can be printed this week. Robb will send the patella marker assembly design to Craig and other members for review (if necessary).
    • Robotics testing related upgrades are progressing. Software issues will be dealt within the coming days.
    • Craig, Snehal and Ahmet conducted another trial imaging session at the UH imaging facility. See updates on imaging for details.
    • Snehal will address the assigned action items of previous week in the upcoming days.
    • Cara will provide data management related updates. She will team members to the data and media management in biomechanics project at SimTk (dmmb). She will explore the use of Midas platform at iDASH.

  2. Update on imaging.
    • A set of imaging protocols (isotropic T1 weighted, sagittal 3D DESS and axial MESE) were attempted on February 17, 2014. This was a third test imaging session.
    • In the meeting images from this test session along with the previous test sessions were viewed and compared. Image contrasts were also compared to those obtained in the study by Peterfy et al. (2008), see http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3048821. The images obtained on February 17, 2014 session were found to be not as desirable as the team would like. The MESE image set did not compare favorably to that obtained in the referenced study. The isotropic T1 weighted and 3D DESS images were also sub par.

    • The team concluded that the isotropic t1 weighted image protocol will be kept similar to that used in previous studies done in house, the 3D DESS approximate image set obtained during November 14, 2013 session will be used, and the MESE protocol should be reiterated. Snehal will contact the UH imaging facility to obtain all the image headers (as DICOM headers are not an entirely reliable source of image information). Another test session will be set up for the following week.
    • Snehal will try to obtain another knee specimen as the team suspected that certain artifacts in the images may have been either due to poor tissue quality (worsened by several freeze thaw cycles), or the specimen still being at a frozen state.
    • Imaging data from January 29, 2014 session will also be requested from UH team, however, that image set may be entirely discarded.
  3. Update on pressure measurement.
    • Relevant information regarding pressure sensor calibration trial will be updated on the pressure calibration specifications page.
  4. Update on manufacturing of testing accessories.
    • See notes in agenda item 1 above.
  5. Update on specimen preparation specifications.
    • The topic was not discussed.
  6. Discuss progress of all other tasks.
    • Updates are progressing as planned.
  7. Decide immediate action items for the next meeting.
    • Please see Immediate Action Items above for details.
  8. Other.
    • There is an in house installation of Midas Platform at the Cleveland Clinic to explore its potential utility for data management. Ahmet provided a demonstration of this system. Cleveland Clinic Open knee team members are encouraged to get accounts and use the system to familiarize themselves with it. It is recommended to use only de-identified/non-proprietary/non-critical information while testing that system.
