  4. Snehal Chokhandre
  5. Cara Sullivan

Agenda:

  1. Discuss immediate action items from the last meeting.
  2. Update on anatomical imaging.
  3. Evaluation of readiness for mechanical joint testing.
  4. Update on tissue preparation and testing specifications.
  5. Update on data management approach (to include specimen specific information for recently acquired test specimens).
  6. Decide immediate action items for the next meeting.
  7. Other.

Immediate Action Items:

  • Robb
    • Summarize equilibration/calibration trials for pressure calibration.
    • Finalize patella marker assembly manufacturing.
    • Provide state of the joint testing system.
  • Tara
    • Review tissue preparation specifications page, i.e. responses of Snehal.
  • Cara
    • Circulate draft scenario for Open Knee(s) promotional video.
  • Snehal
    • Prepare specimen pages for three acquired knee specimens.
  • Snehal and Ahmet
    • Review specimen preparation specification page.
  • Snehal and Craig
    • Summarize specimen/sample labeling convention proposal in the data management wiki page.
  • Ahmet, Craig, and Snehal
    • Summarize March 4, 2014 anatomical imaging trial.

Notes:

  1. Discuss immediate action items from the last meeting.
    • Ahmet provided an update on Robb's summary of the pressure sensor equilibration trial. This process needs to be summarized by next week.
    • The patella marker design is about to be finalized. Another candidate design was sent by Mark Lobosky from Medical Device Solution of the Cleveland Clinic. The patella marker design needs to be finalized and manufactured.
    • Snehal addressed the requests on the sample tissue preparation pages. Snehal requested the team, specifically Tara to review the tissue preparation specifications. She requested her and Ahmet review the knee specimen preparation.
    • Snehal and Jason found another knee (courtesy of Robb), which is thawing for today's imaging trial session. The condition of the knee is uncertain.
    • Snehal evaluated the space behind the robot in the BioRobotics Core area, in order to place the vibratome and the tissue testing machine. It should be adequate if equipped with a high stool. Everything will be setup and Snehal will evaluate its use for the future. This setup is anticipated to be more convenient. If it becomes cumbersome, the devices will be moved downstairs. Robb is in agreement with this arrangement.

    • Ahmet sent out the publicity update to the team (Crain's Cleveland Business article and the Biomch-L forum entry).
    • Cara explored the possibility of a “kickstarter” style promotional video. These videos typically include: who you are, what you're looking for, what the reward is, and a contingency if things don't work. Cara will try to have a tentative script written for an Open Knee(s) promotional video for discussion next week or the following. The next step will be to identify ways to publicize material like this. Options include using existing websites such as the Cleveland Clinic news feeds and maybe the department websites. Collaborator's sites (at the University of Utah, Stanford University. Simtk.org) and social networks such as LinkedIn should be considered.

  2. Update on anatomical imaging.
    • The pressing action item was to perform the test session at the facilities of the University Hospitals (at the day of this meeting). Details associated with this imaging trial session today were discussed. Comments for the trial workflow and file naming were added. The team decided to tape the new Optotrak markers along with the brass fixation screws for evaluation of potential artifacts.
  3. Evaluation of readiness for mechanical joint testing.
    • In following meetings, Robb should provide updates on the robotics testing setup. An action item was added to reflect this.
  4. Update on tissue preparation and testing specifications.
    • This item was already discussed as part of the immediate action items from last week (see above). Snehal would like some help from the team in reviewing these sections.
    • Related, Ahmet mentioned that the team will have a visitor: Elvis Danso, a PhD student from Rami Korhonen's laboratory in University of Eastern Finland. Elvis will participate in tissue testing. Snehal will likely train him on use of the equipment and he can help with the testing of tissues from Open Knee(s). Snehal should order two knees (preferably healthy ones, no age limit) specifically for tissue testing, one to supplement Elvis' project. She can also utilize these knees to explore more detailed tissue testing protocols.
  5. Update on data management approach (to include specimen specific information for recently acquired test specimens).
    • Ahmet proposed the team to start contributing to the oks001 project page, as the first knee specimen page. This will help us to organize the specimen specific page(s) including tissue samples from the same knee specimen. Related specimen-specific data, including images, etc., can be summarized in these pages. If necessary, separate subpages will be added for tissue samples.
    • Ahmet summarized a naming scheme that he and Snehal discussed. Snehal also commented and recommended that the naming should include [specimen number, 001]_[4 character tissue]_[4 character tissue location]_[trial number, e.g. 001]. This candidate approach will be summarized on the specifications page for data management. This should also be related to the documentation in specimen wiki pages and the folder/file structure in any repository, e.g. data management system such as Midas Platform or version control system such as Subversion.
  6. Decide immediate action items for the next meeting.
    • See Immediate Action Items above. The team discussed and agreed on these.
  7. Other.
    • None noted.
