Recurring Meeting of Cleveland Clinic - Stanford University
Date: April 16, 2014
Time: 4:00 PM EST
Means: Conference Call
Attendees:
- Ahmet Erdemir (Cleveland Clinic)
- Joy Ku (Stanford University)
- Henry Kwong (Stanford University)
Agenda:
- Progress on mockup interface development for results retrieval.
- Reproducibility of FEBio results.
- Update on data management tool.
- Decide action items for next meeting.
- Other.
Immediate Action Items:
Stanford University (Joy & Henry)
- Implement the results retrieval interface.
Cleveland Clinic (Ahmet & Craig)
- Prepare a test problem including post-processing capabilities.
Notes:
- Progress on mockup interface development for results retrieval.
- The mockup interface does not pop-up dialog windows for notification anymore. Instead, the user is directed to another page within the Simtk.org web page. This approach was adapted to resolve security issues. The cloud computing interface sends two notification e-mails at the time of submission and now another one upon completion. After completion a gzip/tar file is generated including all the contents of the job and is kept at the compute server.
- A post-processing script may be needed (and included in Henry's wrapper) to extract important results and/or to provide a summary of results. If generated, such results can be pushed back to Simtk.org servers for indefinite storage and to accumulate a results database. The raw results (gzip/tar) file can be kept at the compute server for a limited amount time for downloads. The results retrieval interface can provide links to abridged results and to raw results (with an expiration notification).
- To move forward, the Cleveland Clinic team will prepare a test problem also including post-processing for extraction of important results. The Stanford University team will work on the actual results retrieval interface.
- The cloud computing efforts will likely be mentioned in an upcoming manuscript on Simtk.org infrastructure. Visibility to this feature can also be increase by mentioning it in conference presentations. FEBio workshops and/or symposia may be good venues to promote this capability to also attract more FEBio based projects to Simtk.org.
- Reproducibility of FEBio results.
- Ahmet informed the Stanford University team that FEBio group was made aware of this issue. FEBio personnel will pull out information obtained from previous reproducibility studies using the software. Ahmet also noted that he did not have the issue on his workstation for repeated solutions of the test problem using single and multiple threads.
- Update on data management tool.
- The Cleveland Clinic team informed the Stanford University group on their newly installed in-house data management system relying on Midas Platform. The installation was fairly straightforward. Joy noted Steve Piper from NAMIC as a connection, who uses Midas Platform. Ahmet noted Brad Davis from Kitware Inc.
- Decide action items for next meeting.
- See Immediate Action Items above.
- Other.
- Ahmet sent the progress report to the NIH for the first year of the Open Knee(s) grant. The Stanford University team should keep an eye on expenditures for timely invoicing.
