Immediate Action Items:

  • Provide images of laxity data for oks003 in the relevant specimen wiki page.

  • Schedule oks006 testing for the team in lieu of cancelled meetings during the holidays.
  • Confirm probing of ten points for each registration marker of all oks specimens.

Notes:

1. Discuss immediate action items from the last meeting.
   • Snehal scheduled imaging for assessment of new registration markers. She also confirmed scheduling of imaging of the next specimen in January and of other imaging sessions for the next year.
   • Snehal came up with a labeling convention for secondary tissues. The team discussed and agreed upon these conventions.
   • Robb still needs to follow up about freezer power backup contingency plan.

   • Robb and Tara will continue upgrade of SimVitro version on robotics testing computer and organize versions on repository.

   • Robb conducted post-experiment pressure sensor calibration for oks003 and provided calibration information in the in-house data management system.
   • Tara ordered bone cement for upcoming testing sessions.
   • Tara presented internal-external rotation, varus-valgus, and anterior-posterior translation data for oks003. The specimen appears to be stiffer than other specimens. Tara will provide the laxity plots in the oks003 wiki page.
   • Craig uploaded sample MR images of oks003 to the oks003 specimen wiki page. The group confirmed that the images look good.
   • All team members were reminded again to upload all oks specimen and testing photos to in-house data management system by the end of the year.
2. Discuss oks005/oks006 testing plan.
   • The team decided not to test oks005 due to uncertain health history. Next round of testing will be on oks006, which is a right knee.
   • Workload and schedule for joint level testing was discussed.
     • Snehal will take knee out at 9:00 AM on Sunday (January 4, 2015)
     • Specimen preparation will start at 9:00 AM on Monday led by Tara (January 5, 2015)
     • The team will meet at 8:00 AM on Tuesday for imaging preparation led by Craig (January 6, 2015)
     • The specimen will be aimed to be ready for tibiofemoral joint testing (led by Tara) at 1:00 PM on Tuesday (January 6, 2015)
     • Ahmet and Robb will meet, early morning on Wednesday (7:00 AM) to start patellofemoral joint testing (January 7, 2014). Ahmet and Robb will prepare the sensor and conduct pre-testing calibration on Tuesday morning when others are at imaging (10:00 AM, January 6, 2015)
3. Discuss potential publications (technical notes, abstracts for upcoming conferences etc).
   • The group brainstormed about various abstracts for conferences.
     • Overall vision of Open Knee(s), cloud computing features, individual experimentation protocols geared towards modeling, all can result in conference abstracts. The group agreed upon paying attention to upcoming conference deadlines to increase scholarly output and also the visibility of the project.
     • Ahmet prepared an abstract on overall Open Knee(s) data collection for BMES/FDA Frontiers in Medical Devices meeting. All team members should review this abstract for submission by December 19, 2015.
     • The group identified at least four abstracts, all related to experimentation, that can be submitted to ASB meeting in Columbus, OH (deadline not available yet) and/or SB3C in Snowbird, UT (deadline set for January 16, 2015).
   • The group also discussed potential manuscripts.
     • Ahmet informed the team that Open Knee(s) was invited by Trent Guess to submit an article to the Journal of Knee Surgery. A simulation study emphasizing the clinical utility of Open Knee(s) will be appropriate. Open Knee(s) - Generation 1 model can be used, e.g. for pivot shift simulations. This manuscript needs to be completed within the next three months.
     • Ahmet also emphasized that many of the experimentation specifications, along with the data, can be useful technical notes to publish.
4. Decide immediate action items for the next meeting.

5. Other.
   • The group decided to hold off the meetings during the holiday season. Next meeting will be on January 13, 2015.
   • Members of the Philanthropy Institute of Cleveland Clinic will likely stop by during the next round of knee testing. This will be a great visibility for Open Knee(s). These folks can be helpful to raise funds in future to support this open development project.
   • Jason Halloran and some of his students are interested in watching an Open Knee(s) testing. They may join the team during oks006 testing.
   • Snehal needs to get keys for the walk-in freezer to facilitate access to the specimens.
