Immediate Action Items:
- Stanford University (Joy)
- Prepare to provide information to support grant submission to acquire a mini-cluster.
- Cleveland Clinic (Ahmet)
- Provide Open Knee(s) - Generation 1 model compatible with FEBio version 2 for cloud computing.
Notes:
Update on SimTk.org upgrade.
There is no set date for the release of new SimTk.org site. It will possibly happen sometime in March.
- Progress on cloud computing interface.
Launching of cloud computing will be after the release of new SimTk.org site.
- Open Knee(s) - Generation 1 on cloud computing.
- Ahmet is interested in having the Open Knee(s) - Generation 1 model with simple pre-/post-processing on the cloud.
- Ahmet noted his intentions to submit abstracts to ASB 2015 (deadline end of March) about cloud computing.
- One option is to focus on Open Knee(s) - Generation 1 model illustrating the use of the knee model on the cloud. This can be accomplished by using the staging servers. Cleveland Clinic team can lead submission of this abstract by also involving the Stanford University group.
- The other option is a submission focusing on a general purpose cloud computing infrastructure for biomechanical models. Stanford University team can lead this. Such a study can show the utility of cloud computing with various models. Joy noted that this abstract may be a good venue to cite other cloud computing platforms like Galaxy. She also wants to tap into FEBio community to encourage dissemination of and cloud computing with finite element models. Ahmet noted that this abstract may also emphasize "models as service" approach, i.e. not just disseminating the model but providing the workflow and capability to run a model in various forms for desired needs.
- In relation to these discussions, Henry wondered about computational costs (and actual costs) with the Open Knee(s) model on the cloud. It is possible to utilize the simulations, which need to be conducted for launching the models and writing abstracts, for assessment of costs.
- Grant application for a mini-cluster to support computing with Open Knee(s).
- Ahmet discussed his desire to utilize a company's request for applications for a mini-cluster. He is interested in providing a computing platform to run free and open access models (Open Knee(s) to start with) and share the results. Previously Joy and Ahmet e-mailed about this opportunity and discussed where the cluster can be hosted. It seems like Cleveland Clinic may be able to host the cluster and make it accessible for simulations. The Stanford University team can set the cloud computing infrastructure to use this cluster as a computing server. Joy is willing to provide supporting information for this grant submission.
- Other.
- Ahmet will be in San Francisco during February 10-12, 2015. He asked whether there is a possibility to meet face-to-face. Joy can meet the morning of February 10, 2015. She may also be able to shuffle her afternoon schedule, if needed.
