Recurring Meeting of Cleveland Clinic Core Team
Date: February 24, 2015
Time: 10:30 AM EST
Means: In person meeting
Attendees:
- Ahmet Erdemir
- Snehal Chokhandre
- Robb Colbrunn
- Tara Bonner
Agenda:
- Discuss immediate action items from the last meeting.
- Continue pivot shift manuscript discussion.
- Discuss building tissue sample thickness measurement system and other accessories for tissue testing lab.
- Decide immediate action items for the next meeting.
- Other.
Immediate Action Items:
- Robb
- Draft patellofemoral joint testing abstract for ASB 2015.
- Craig
- Upload oks007 MRI to in-house data management system and put sample images on wiki.
- Update pre-processing of Open Knee(s) - Generation 1 model (used for pivot shift) to incorporate joint coordinate system offsets.
- Snehal
- Assign writing roles to team members for pivot shift manuscript.
- Snehal and Ahmet
- Evaluate oks004 tissue testing data for ASB 2015 abstract.
- Snehal and Craig
- Revisit optical thickness measurement for building a new thickness measurement system.
- All
- Transfer testing pictures from all personal devices to Midas, the in-house data management system, in a regular fashion.
Notes:
- Discuss immediate action items from the last meeting.
- Robb has confirmed that the prototype shop will charge the Open Knee(s) team for the new tensile testing grip parts (female components). He also contacted Paul Saluan to confirm his willingness to contribute to the pivot shift modeling manuscript. Robb still needs to work on the draft of the ASB 2015 abstract on patellofemoral joint testing.
- Snehal drafted an abstract for ASB 2015 on tissue testing. She went over the document in the meeting. Ahmet wants to revisit the LCL data as the plots don’t appear to demonstrate a successful test. Ahmet also advised to add a figure that shows a layout of the knee and where all the samples are coming from and another that shows what the each sample looks like.
- Tara ordered supplies for mechanical testing.
- Craig was not able to attend the meeting. Ahmet summarized Craig's improvements on model pre-processing script for pivot shift simulations. Craig's action items will be discussed in the next meeting.
- Continue pivot shift manuscript discussion.
- Snehal still needs to provide the division of labor for development of the pivot shift manuscript. It is likely that the team will not have a specimen for testing next week. In that case, the group will focus on getting the pivot shift manuscript filled in, and getting the ASB abstracts out, potentially including a pivot shift related one.
- Robb will send out current version of the robotic testing manuscript related to clinically informed cadaver pivot shift experimentation. Snehal can utilize this study as a basis for motivation.
- Discuss building tissue sample thickness measurement system and other accessories for tissue testing lab.
- The estimate to replicate the contact based measurement system relying on an LVDT is $5k. This may not be worth to pursue if development of a non-contact system may be a better solution at an equivalent cost.
- The team needs to do more pilot testing on biological samples to see if a camera-based optical technique will work well on them. Ahmet advised to test extreme tissue types, e.g. hard and soft tissue. Robb mentioned testing of flat and curved tissue as well. Snehal and Craig will return back to such studies for a more controlled evaluation of tissue thickness measurement systems.
- Decide immediate action items for the next meeting.
- See Immediate Action Items above.
- Other.
- The group also discussed cost-sharing to connect the freezers to the Cleveland Clinic's alarm system. The Department of Biomedical Engineering is not inclined to support the freezer infrastructure upgrade; the team will ask for partial contribution. The next step is to obtain an updated quote. Robb will e-mail the Department to identify users of the freezer systems who can provide support.
