Recurring Meeting of Cleveland Clinic Core Team

Date: March 3, 2015

Time: 10:30 AM EST

Means: In person meeting

Attendees:

  1. Ahmet Erdemir
  2. Craig Bennetts
  3. Snehal Chokhandre
  4. Robb Colbrunn
  5. Tara Bonner

Agenda:

  1. Discuss immediate action items from the last meeting.
  2. Finalize introduction and methods section development for pivot shift manuscript.
  3. Decide immediate action items for the next meeting.
  4. Other.

Immediate Action Items:

  • Craig
    • Put sample MR images for oks007 on wiki.
    • Try to run pivot shift simulations to evaluate convergence characteristics.
  • Snehal and Robb
    • Explore tuning of tissue testing system to get ideal ramp loading behaviour.
  • Snehal
    • Test tissue samples at 20%/s and 100%/s rates to evaluate testing capabilities.
  • Robb, Tara and Ahmet
    • Provide comments on the introduction of the pivot shift manuscript.
  • Snehal
    • Incorporate comments by the team on the introduction of the pivot shift manuscript and submit to Paul Saluan for review.
  • Robb and Craig
    • Write draft of pivot shift loading trajectory section for the methods of pivot shift manuscript.
  • Ahmet
    • Write draft of model, simulation scenarios, and outputs for the methods of pivot shift manuscript.

Notes:

  1. Discuss immediate action items from the last meeting.
    • Robb drafted the abstract on patellofemoral joint testing for ASB 2015. Tara, Ahmet, and Snehal already reviewed it. Robb will communicate with Craig and Jason to get their feedback and submit.
    • Craig is almost finished implementing many additional features for pre-processing of Open Knee(s) - Generation 1 model for the pivot shift study. He still needs to put sample magnetic resonance images for oks007.
    • Snehal drafted the introduction for the pivot shift manuscript. Additional details were discussed as part of the specific agenda item below.
    • Snehal and Ahmet evaluated the tissue testing data collected for oks004. The system appears to be not capable of conducting tests at 100%/s strain rate. The system also applies ramp as a paraboloid which may cause tissue relaxation during deceleration phase at the end of the ramp. This potentially causes uncertainties in peak force time instant and magnitude. Snehal and Robb will try to tune the PID control gains of the testing system to see if a more ideal ramp command can be accomplished. The group decided not to submit an abstract to ASB 2015 on this topic.
    • Snehal found a detailed article on comparison of various tissue thickness measurement approaches. She provided the link to the article in the relevant wiki page. Snehal and Craig will evaluate and work on the camera-based thickness measurement system as time permits.
    • Snehal uploaded any photos she has for the experimentation. Ahmet needs to provide photos he took for oks007.
  2. Finalize introduction and methods section development for pivot shift manuscript.
    • Snehal wrote the first draft of the introduction. Robb, Tara, and Ahmet will review and provide feedback. Snehal will incorporate their comments and send it to Paul Saluan to ask for clinical input.
    • Ahmet will write various sections of the method, in particular description of the knee model, simulation scenarios and the output metrics. Robb and Craig will work together to describe the pivot shift loading condition and how it is applied to the model.
    • Craig will bring the pre-processing script in a working condition and start running simulations to assess convergence characteristics of the model when simulating pivot shift loads.
    • The group also went over the figure list. Ahmet advised authors to put a note in the text in case they see the need for a figure.
  3. Decide immediate action items for the next meeting.
    • See Immediate Action Items above.
  4. Other.
    • Ahmet informed the team that he has created various wiki pages and repository folders to contain studies to describe experimentation and summarize collected data in a curated form. This was necessitated by the patellofemoral joint testing abstract. It now includes other experimentation studies that resulted in submission of conference abstracts, which may lead into publications. This organization can also be applied for student projects.
    • Snehal noted that oks004 was not a hip to toe specimen. This deviation in protocol, along with others, should be reported in scholarly publications.
