Notes:

1. Update on SimTk.org upgrade.

   • Beta version of SimTk.org update is expected to be launched by th end of the next month (July 2015). In following, the Stanford University team will get back to cloud computing feature.

2. Progress on cloud computing interface.

   • Joy noted that the cloud computing interface will be handled after SimTk.org update (see agenda item above). The goal is to show that cloud computing to be done and get people engaged and provide their models within the cloud computing framework. It is anticipated that Open Knee(s) may provide a good example of finite element analysis on the cloud, potentially encouraging other FEBio users provide their models in this infrastructure.

3. Open Knee(s) - Generation 1 convergence studies.
   • Ahmet mentioned the large scale convergence studies they have been conducting in a scripted fashion on Cleveland Clinic high performance computing systems. Similar analyses can also be conducted in the cloud (as part of sensitivity analysis or inverse problems). The convergence studies will also inform model that will be deployed on the cloud, where the solution process can be fine tuned for better performance.
4. Other.

   • Ahmet provided a summary of the 2015 BMES/FDA conference on medical devices and innovative use of modeling and simulation. The themes in the conference resonated well with the direction Open Knee(s) and SimTk.org have been taken. Such conferences and others particularly attended by the users of model (application oriented communities) will be good to promote cloud computing feature. Related to Open Knee(s) and SimTk.org philosophy, there were discussions about access to data (raw and readily usable in models). Joy noted that data resources in general have been very attractive to the communities. Ahmet noted the need for databases for parameters that can be extracted from literature and provided for modeling and simulation. Joy mentioned the possibility of natural language processing to automate generation of such databases.

   • Ahmet noted that due to his travel schedule, the date of the upcoming meeting may need to be changed. He will follow up with the group at the Stanford University for rescheduling.
