Recurring Meeting of Cleveland Clinic Core Team

Date: July 21, 2015

Time: 10:30 AM EST

Means: In person meeting

Attendees:

  1. Craig Bennetts
  2. Robb Colbrunn
  3. Tara Bonner
  4. Omar Gad
  5. Connor Lough
  6. Diana Suciu
  7. Raghav Malik

Agenda:

  1. Discuss immediate action items from the last meeting.
  2. Discuss research student assignments for the remaining term.
  3. Decide immediate action items for the next meeting.
  4. Other.

Immediate Action Items:

  • Craig
    • Continue learning IA-FEMesh.
    • Complete script to convert FEBio output kinematics (quaternions) to Grood-Suntay joint coordinate system.
    • Contact Michael to fix most recent installation of Salome.
    • Update meeting minutes.
  • Robb
    • Send Craig Grood-Suntay anatomical motion from femur-to-tibia transform.
  • All Students
    • Continue segmentation.
    • Update/review image segmentation and geometry generation specifications.
  • Connor
    • Work on final presentation.
  • Diana
    • Work on final presentation.
  • Omar
    • Work on final presentation and REU poster.
  • Raghav
    • Work on adding artificial errors (i.e. noise) to image samples to test script robustness.

Ongoing Action Items:

  • Ahmet
    • Dissemination of joint mechanics testing data.
    • Prepare flowcharts to describe data flow for pre-processing of joint kinematics/kinetics data.
  • Craig
    • Anatomical imaging manuscript.
    • Large-scale analysis of simulation parameters for convergence.
  • Snehal
    • Continue interacting up with Biomomentum, Inc. about mechanical testing system tuning features.
    • Complete the additional structured testing plan for tuning the system for different sample sizes, strain levels and strain rates.
    • Pivot shift manuscript.
    • Cruciate ligament modeling & simulation.

    • Evaluate alternative tissue testing strategy.
  • Robb
    • Patellofemoral joint experimentation manuscript.
  • Tara
    • Tibiofemoral joint experimentation manuscript.

Notes:

  1. Discuss immediate action items from the last meeting.
    • Craig put sample MRI images on the oks008 wiki.
    • Craig started learning IA-FEMesh, gave openknee gen1 iges files to Piyush to convert to stl to mesh in IA-FEMesh.
    • Robb met with Connor this morning to discuss patella registration marker transform.
    • Student MRI segmentation:
      • Omar: worked on specimen oks001, bones and cartilage
      • Diana: worked on specimen oks001 bones, redoing them in higher quality.
      • Connor: registration markers
    • Connor met with Robb to determine patella registration marker transform.
    • Connor finished error estimation for registration markers (in repository).
    • Connor made a script to convert FEBio spring definitions in feb file to tension-only.
    • Diana modelled tension-only springs between medial meniscus and MCL with stiffness=200 N/mm; this model did not run on Diana's computer (20 hours, FAILED), it was run on Connor's computer (9 hours, CONVERGED).
    • Diana found a range of stiffness values in literature: 100, 200, 800 N/mm.
    • Raghav met with Snehal to take pictures for tissue thickness with different backgrounds/lighting. Additional lighting (flashlight) did not help. Dark blue background was better than red background.
    • Raghav added capability to measure tissue thickness in horizontal direction (for tension samples).
    • Raghav finished interactive removal of artificial thickness measurement.
  2. Discuss research student assignments for the remaining term.
    • All students will continue working on assignments from last meeting (2015-07-14).
    • All students will work on their final presentations.
    • All students were advised to document the method they are using for segmentation in a readme file in appropriate folder.
  3. Decide immediate action items for the next meeting.
    • See Immediate Action Items above.
  4. Other.
    • Conferences/presentations:
      • Tara presented pivot shift study comparing different ACL reconstructions at ISB in Glasgow, Scotland.
      • ASB - Columbus:
        • Robb: podium, patellofemoral experimentation (Thursday, August 6, 2015) [only going Thursday].
        • Tara: poster, knee joint optimization for Grood-Suntay control [going August 5-8].
        • Omar and Raghav are interested in going too!
      • Omar: REU poster presentation (Thursday, August 6).
