Recurring Meeting of Cleveland Clinic Core Team

Date: September 22, 2015

Time: 10:30 AM EST

Means: In person meeting

Attendees:

  1. Ahmet Erdemir
  2. Snehal Chokhandre
  3. Tara Bonner

Agenda:

  1. Discuss immediate action items from the last meeting.
  2. Discuss potential publications.
  3. Decide immediate action items for the next meeting.
  4. Other.

Immediate Action Items:

  • Ahmet
    • Disseminate joint mechanics testing data for oks004 and oks008.
    • Prepare flowcharts to describe data flow for pre-processing of joint kinematics/kinetics data.
  • Craig
    • Explore hexahedral meshing workflows in Salome for STL surfaces.
    • Document in the relevant wiki page convergence of Open Knee(s) - Generation 1 model when using springs.
    • Prepare outline of imaging data manuscript with reference to Scientific Data journal format.
  • Snehal
    • Go over meshing documentation provided by Craig to evaluate the reproducibility of meshing strategies.
  • Robb and Tara
    • Upload left knee coordinate system versions of joint mechanics data for oks003.
    • Upload post-calibration file for contact pressure data of oks007.
  • Tara
    • Prepare outline of tibiofemoral joint data manuscript with reference to Scientific Data journal format.
  • Robb
    • Prepare outline of patellofemoral joint data manuscript with reference to Scientific Data journal format.

Ongoing Action Items:

  • Craig
    • Anatomical imaging manuscript.
    • Large-scale analysis of simulation parameters for convergence.
  • Snehal
    • Pivot shift manuscript.
    • Cruciate ligament modeling & simulation.

  • Robb
    • Patellofemoral joint experimentation manuscript.
  • Tara
    • Tibiofemoral joint experimentation manuscript.

Notes:

  1. Discuss immediate action items from the last meeting.
    • Ahmet disseminated joint mechanics data for three specimens: oks001, oks002, and oks006. He informed the group about specific data missing in oks003 and oks007 folders in the in-house data management system. Robb and Tara will follow up to provide missing information.
    • Craig provided documentation of meshing workflow in relevant wiki page. Snehal will test it.
    • Snehal talked to Anatomy Gifts Registry and learned that it will take some time to receive specimens from young donors.
    • Snehal identified a smaller framing system similar to 80/20 for building the optical thickness measurement system frame. It was ordered and will be delivered this week.
  2. Discuss potential publications.
    • Snehal received information from Scientific Data regarding the suitability of the Open Knee(s) data for publication. One option is to have a large paper including all the data. The other is to submit multiple papers simultaneously for theme based review.
    • Ahmet recommended submission of multiple papers as three parts: Part 1 for imaging, Part 2 for tibiofemoral joint testing, and Part 3 for patellofemoral joint testing. Parts 2 and 3 may need to be combined. Tissue testing will follow afterwards as a Part 4 manuscript.
    • The discussion on tissue testing manuscript needs to continue to decide on how to present the tissue mechanical testing data. This manuscript may be divided further based on focusing on tissue types for separate publications or it may be submitted as one set depending on the kind of data assessment/analysis added.
    • The team viewed the Scientific Data website for recommended manuscript outline to discuss its individual components. Lead authors of the studies will start developing an outline of their respective Open Knee(s) data manuscripts accordingly.
    • The group also discussed if there are any conflicts in uploading Open Knee(s) data to the journal site or sites recommended by the journal, e.g. Dryad. Even though the data is being disseminated on Simtk, other sites can be used to host the data as submitted for publication. The Simtk dissemination will be an evolving process which will eventually include the analyses whereas the journal site can be a mirror for the data set as it is published.
  3. Decide immediate action items for the next meeting.
    • See immediate action items above.
  4. Other.
    • None noted.
