Recurring Meeting of Cleveland Clinic Core Team

Date: March 8, 2016

Time: 10:30 AM EST

Means: In person meeting

Attendees:

  1. Ahmet Erdemir
  2. Craig Bennetts
  3. Snehal Chokhandre
  4. Robb Colbrunn
  5. Jason Halloran (Cleveland State University)
  6. Will Zaylor (Cleveland State University)

Agenda:

  1. Discuss immediate action items from the last meeting.
  2. Continue evaluation of drafts for data manuscripts.
  3. Plan oks0010 testing.
  4. Decide immediate action items for the next meeting.
  5. Other.

Immediate Action Items:

  • Craig
    • Continue working on recommendations discussed in the meeting for the imaging manuscript.
    • Document resampling of cartilage surface geometry in the geometry generation specifications page.
    • Start geometry generation of other tissues and document in the geometry generation specifications page.
    • Analyze contact pressure data files to pinpoint sensor orientation.
  • Snehal
    • Continue with tissues testing evaluation protocols (next two weeks).
    • Continue providing quantitative information in conclusions sections of tissue testing evaluation page.
  • Jason
    • Provide the background for the patellofemoral joint testing manuscript.
  • Robb
    • Look at contact pressure data analysis results to identify presentation for the patellofemoral joint manuscript.
    • Complete the first draft of the patellofemoral joint testing manuscript.
  • Tara
    • Continue working on tables for the tibiofemoral joint testing manuscript.

Ongoing Action Items:

/!\ DEADLINE FOR SECOND DRAFT DATA PAPERS IS APRIL 1, 2016 /!\

  • Ahmet
    • Prepare flowcharts to describe data flow for pre-processing of joint kinematics/kinetics data.
  • Craig
    • Anatomical imaging manuscript.
    • Large-scale analysis of simulation parameters for convergence.
  • Snehal
    • Add citations and summaries to tissue data papers to the wiki for potential use to model tissue properties.
    • Pivot shift manuscript.
    • Cruciate ligament modeling & simulation.

  • Robb
    • Patellofemoral joint experimentation manuscript.
  • Tara
    • Tibiofemoral joint experimentation manuscript.

Notes:

  1. Discuss immediate action items from the last meeting.
    • Ahmet completed segmentation of oks001 MCL and committed the final version to the source code repository.
    • Ahmet also described potential ways to create arbitrary image volume with higher resolution than MRIs to use as a master volume for segmentation.
    • Craig analyzed contact pressure data for all specimens and committed the results to the source code repository. Per Ahmet's request, he will also analyze trials indicating pressure sensor orientation. Craig went over the wiki page on pressure analysis and discussed example output file and the plots for average pressures in each trial. In response to Robb, Craig will modify pressure analysis to have uniform scaling for batch processing of multiple trials.
    • Craig needs to continue working on the manuscript. He will reach out to Carl Winalski to see the status of MRI based grading of the specimens.
    • Craig will also need to document tissue-specific geometry generation.
    • Snehal collected OTMS reference measurements with round and prismatic (square cross-section) gauges. Measurement uncertainty with the OTMS appears to be close to the resolution of the images collected.
    • Snehal has been conducting repeatability tests to evaluate tissue testing protocols.
      • The testing includes punching of sample, preparation to obtain uniform thickness, measurement of tissue thickness.
      • She has conducted unconfined compression tests - find contact step (with force data filtering) followed by stress-relaxation steps (without force data filtering). She noted discrepancies in initial tissue thickness. She attributed that to the 30 minutes recovery time between experiments. The average moduli in between tests seemed in agreement.
      • For confined compression tests, there seemed to be mismatches at final step of stress-relaxation. This needs to be further explore to see if it is an experimentation artefact.
      • She will finish up in following weeks and provide documentation. The group also discussed preconditioning steps, and decided to keep it as is and report in detail.
  2. Continue evaluation of drafts for data manuscripts.
    • Robb will go over contact pressure analysis to decide upon relevant figures for the patellofemoral joint testing manuscript. Jason will provide background for that manuscript.
    • Tara was not able to attend this week's meeting. The figure and table list should be finalized for the tibiofemoral joint testing manuscript.
    • For anatomical imaging manuscript, grading of the knees should be followed up with Carl Winalski to incorporate in the document.
  3. Plan oks0010 testing.
    • The earliest week of testing for oks010 is the week of March 28, 2016. From the BioRobotics Core, only Tara will be available that week. The imaging facility is booked until mid May. Ahmet decided to postpone the testing to a time where all the team will be around.

    • The group also discussed scheduling of knee testing relevant to a sister project by Jason Halloran and Will Zaylor.
  4. Decide immediate action items for the next meeting.
    • See Immediate Action Items above.
  5. Other.
    • Will and Jason showed an abstract (for submission to ASB 2016) on simplified representation of cruciate ligaments. The study explores the required number of springs (determined from image based identification of attachment sites) to represent the force generation in the cruciates.
