Date: April 26, 2016

Time: 10:30 AM EST

Means: In person meeting

Attendees:

  1. Ahmet Erdemir
  2. Snehal Chokhandre
  3. Robb Colbrunn
  4. Tara Bonner
  5. Will Zaylor (Cleveland State University)

Agenda:

  1. Discuss immediate action items from the last meeting.
  2. Evaluate second drafts for data manuscripts.
  3. Discuss progress of tissue testing protocol evaluation.
  4. Decide immediate action items for the next meeting.
  5. Other.

Immediate Action Items:

  • Ahmet
    • Review the draft of anatomical imaging manuscript.
    • Review the draft of tibiofemoral joint testing manuscript.
    • Finalize addition of sample images to geometry generation specifications.
    • Generate raw surfaces for oks001 tissue geometries.
  • Ahmet & Robb

    • Work together to generate of aggregated contact pressure plots for patellofemoral joint manuscript.
  • Snehal
    • Continue with tissue testing evaluation protocols.
    • Continue providing quantitative information in conclusions sections of tissue testing evaluation page.
  • Jason
    • Provide the background for the patellofemoral joint testing manuscript.
  • Robb
    • Complete the first draft of the patellofemoral joint testing manuscript.
    • Contact Martin Garon from Biomomentum, Inc. to discuss machine noise.

Notes:

  1. Discuss immediate action items from the last meeting.
    • Ahmet submitted the progress report for the third year of the grant. He provided the links to the report in the grant information related wiki page.
    • Ahmet contacted Advisory Board members and scheduled meetings with them during the last week of May.
    • Ahmet still needs to review the drafts of data manuscripts.
    • Craig decided to move on to exciting adventures. His last day at work was the Friday of the past week. His tasks will transition to Ahmet, including upload of images for the geometry generation wiki page and working with Robb for plots for the patellofemoral joint testing manuscript.
    • Snehal showed unfiltered and filtered data collected on a cartilage sample. The sample was tested during two consecutive days. She conducted an analysis with a third order Butterworth low pass filter and calculated moduli from data obtained in day 1 and day 2. Day to day variation seemed larger than desirable. She needs to apply a zero-phase low pass filter. The group discussed that currently zero stress-strain point relies on "find contact" loading of the mechanical system. Any variation in this may shift the stress-strain curve. Snehal will evaluate this. In addition, she will conduct tests on the same sample over multiple days to see if day-to-day differences have similar trends, i.e. indicating degradation of the sample. Data was collected at 2.5 kHz to later remove noise (approximately at 1 kHz). This noise was apparent only when the machine was moving, e.g. ramp command, not when it was stationary, e.g. wait command. The data collection scheme therefore needs a 2.5 kHz sampling frequency (for ramp loading), down sampling (for wait), and post-processing to remove the noise. Robb will send an e-mail to Martin Garon (Biomomentum, Inc.) about the potential to implement analog filtering and find out potential source of the noise, e.g. mechanical or EMI (as Will noted). Ahmet noted that collecting data with the force transducer disassembled from the mechanical testing system may indicate if the source of noise is EMI.
    • Robb has continued working on the patellofemoral joint testing manuscript. Jason e-mailed Robb and Ahmet that he was almost done with the background. Tara also reviewed the draft and provided her comments in the repository.
  2. Evaluate second drafts for data manuscripts.
    • See relevant notes in the discussions of immediate action items from the last meeting.
  3. Discuss progress of tissue testing protocol evaluation.
    • See relevant notes in the discussions of immediate action items from the last meeting.
  4. Decide immediate action items for the next meeting.
    • See Immediate Action Items above.
  5. Other.
    • Ahmet mentioned that summer students will be arriving soon. Raghav Malik will join the team for two weeks to do his high school senior project on optical thickness measurement system. Connor Lough will work on segmentation of Open Knee(s) specimens and potentially meshing specifications.
    • The group discussed prioritization of work for the upcoming year. Activities for tissue testing, generation of Open Knee(s) geometries and meshes, and assembly of models have the highest priorities. Publication of data manuscripts will also be expected.
