Trouble Importing STL File

Post by Ryan Pewowaruk » Wed Nov 29, 2017 2:25 pm

I am trying to import an stl geometry into simvascular, but am running into trouble.

When I follow the instruction (http://simvascular.github.io/docsModelG ... tingModels) and try to import the stl under models nothing happens.

I am able to import the stl from the file menu, but I'm then unable to copy it to the models tab to perform operations like selecting faces.

Hi Ryan,

After you import your model using the SimVascular instructions, find the crosshair symbol in the upper right hand corner of the 3D window, click on it, and then choose "Reset view". This should bring the model into view.

Let me know if this doesn't work.

Thanks!

Hi Adam,

Thanks for your quick reply. I tried resizing the window like you recommended, but it still doesn't appear that the stl was imported. I would expect that a new tab would be created under "Models", but there isn't.

Hi Ryan,

I just tested importing an stl model and it seems to work fine. What is displayed in the command line/terminal window when you try to import the stl model, is there an error message?

Best,

Gabriel

Hi Gabriel,

Nothing happens in the command line window when I try and import an stl. I right click "Models", click "Import Solid Models" and select the stl file. Then it appears that nothing happens.

Thanks

Hi Ryan,

I don't mean to resize the window. I mean, click on the crosshair in the upper right hand part of the window and choose "Reset View".

You can also share your model with me, and I can try to import it.

Thanks!

Thanks Adam, I'm trying to upload the stl file to share with you, but the forum is giving me an error "Invalid file extension: Cylinder_D1cm_L10cm.STL"

Thanks again Adam for helping out.

The issue was that my file extension was *.STL and it should have been *.stl

For Windows users this link has information on how to change file extensions to lowercase.
