running SV on virtual machine

Post by Mohammadreza Balouchestani » Mon Aug 31, 2020 6:02 am

Hello SV developers.
I'm starting implementing Sv on a virtual machine using remote desktop connection in windows 10
After setting up, the program immediately crashes with message in command: detected recursive attempt by part.org.sv.views to create itself.
What extra information should I provide you to suggest addressing this issue?
thanks,
mohamadreza (masih)

Hi Mohamadreza,

I think the problem is with graphics, this is always a problem when using VMs.

What MV OS are you using and which VM software (e.g. VMWare, Virtual Box)?

Cheers,
Dave

thanks for your answer.
VM OS properties are attached . I connect to VM via "remote desktop connection" in windows10
if further information would be required, please let me know
best regards,

Hi Mohamadreza,

I'm not familiar with the Windows Remote Desktop but it seems that you need to enable it to display graphics.

Cheers,
Dave

thank you for your response
I found the wiki post which points to the disability of windows 10 graphics driver to support opengl3.3 which is required to launch SV but I do not completely grasp what it communicates.
I'm wondering whether it is impossible to launch SV in windows10 guest VM or I should use another way to connect to r VM like WmWare software.
looking forward to suggestion.

Hi Mohamadreza,

OpenGL 3.3 is a library that SV (and most modern) applications use to display graphics.

SV has installers for Windows 10, Ubuntu and MacOS. Why are you not able to use any of those?

I use VMWare for running Ubuntu and Windows 10 on my Mac, seems to work well.

Cheers,
Dave
