Inlet flow

Dear developer,
Recently I tried to set a velocity wavefrom (cm/s) for the inlet. I chose Prescribed Velocities and put a velocity wavefrom of aorta at the Flow rate. I chose plug shape. The simulation results are not satisfactory.

So...
1. I'd like to confirm that only Flow Waveform can be filled in at Flow rate.
2. Can Simvascular calculate with velocity waveform?

Thank you very much.-V-

Yours,
Dai

Hello Dai,

What exactly was not satisfactory about the simulation results?

Remember that velocity values should be negative for flow flowing into the inlet face.

Cheers,
Dave

Dear Dave,

I used the waveform in the coronary tutorial. I divided the flow by the entrance area to get the velocity. Velocity fluctuates in the range of -46~2 cm/ms (mean 12cm/s). Plug flow was chose. Other conditions remained unchanged. The result shows that pressure was near 0 mmHg, which should be 90mmHg probably.

Dai

You should provide volumetric flow rate waveform (e.g. cm^2/s) instead of velocity waveform. Simvascular calculate the nodal velocity U(x,y,z,t) based on the volumetric flow rate waveform and the velocity profile you choose.

Hi,

Do you mean cm^3/s ? Even though it says Prescribed velocities, we should mention the flow rate values only right?

Hi Nishanth,

Yes, it should be cm^3/s.
