Loading DICOM data

Hello,
I have been loading imaging datasets in the .vti format successfully thus far. To maintain the spatial alignment between segmentations from different imaging sequences (obtained without patient movement between them), I'd like to load DICOM sets into Simvascular. Unfortunately, I have not been able to do this. I get the "no magnitude images detected" error, even when I use the sample data available on the Simvascular website. Are other users having a similar issue? Is there any particular DICOM formatting that needs to be satisfied?
Thank You,
joe

Hi,
SimVascular is able to load DICOM images in certain settings (for example, those from sample_data). During my tests, I am always able to use SimVascular to read DICOM images from sample_data. Could you tell me which version you are use for which platform(Linux, Mac or Windows)? I'd like to check if I can reproduce the error.
Thanks,
Hongzhi

Hi Hongzhi,
Thank you for the reply! I'm using Version 2.0.10222 on a Mac. I will try using the new version tomorrow. Please let me know if you can replicate the error.
Thank you.

Hi Hongzhi,
Here's the error I get when trying to load the sample data (using the newest version of SimVascular on my Mac):
ERROR: (ERROR: No magnitude image slices found!)
ERROR: (ERROR: No magnitude image slices found!)
while executing
"createPREOPloadsaveVolFile"
(procedure "guiCVloadDICOM" line 4)
invoked from within
"guiCVloadDICOM"
(menu invoke)
And here's the error I get when trying to load my own DICOM data:
ERROR: Directory (/Mechanics/Real Data/AAA-024/AAA_MRA) does not appear to contain image files.
ERROR: Directory (/Mechanics/Real Data/AAA-024/AAA_MRA) does not appear to contain image files.
while executing
"createPREOPloadsaveVolFile"
invoked from within
".guiCV.tframe3.tpanedwindow4.tframe6.tpanedwindow0.tframe2.frame2.frame3.notebook6.tframe7.notebook0.tframe1.frame12.frame0.button27 invoke "
invoked from within
".guiCV.tframe3.tpanedwindow4.tframe6.tpanedwindow0.tframe2.frame2.frame3.notebook6.tframe7.notebook0.tframe1.frame12.frame0.button27 instate {pressed ..."
(command bound to event)
My DICOM data filetype is listed as .IMA. If you want, I can email you the metadata if that might help. Please let me know.
Thanks,
joe

Hi Joseph,
I talked to one of our developers. SimVascular in mac provides less support for dicom than in linux or windows. We recommend converting dicom files to vti in paraview or itk-snap if you use SimVascular in Mac.
Best,
Hongzhi

Hi Hongzhi,
I've tried to load my DICOM data using the new Windows installation. . . still no luck! Would you be willing to take a look at my data to see if there's some sort of formatting issue? I can send a link to it if you provide me an email address.
Thank You,
joe

I'm having the same trouble on a Windows pc with the latest version.
Did you found a way around it?
Thank you,

Hi,
I'm having the same problem. I am not able to load dicom files/Metaimages into my working directory. The ones in the sample-data work, but my own dicom files cannot be loaded with the same error. Did anyone find the reason for this?
Thanks,
Parastou

Hi Parastou,
The current SimVascular has limited support on DICOM files. If your SimVascular can't load the dicom files, please try to use other software packages, like paraview, itk-snap, MITK etc to convert the dicom files to a vti file and then load it into SimVascular.

Hello everyone!
I made the program that converts from the dicom to vti only for SimVascular.
Anyone can download from the next.

The program works on windows.
Please try it.
