Video synchronization during a neutral pose

New project for OpenCap, which is a new software package to estimate 3D human movement dynamics from smartphone videos. OpenCap strongly relies on OpenSim.

Video synchronization during a neutral pose

Post by Tay JY » Wed Apr 12, 2023 8:21 am

Over the past few weeks, I have been utilizing OpenCap with ease. However, I recently attempted to use the same setup in a different location and encountered a video synchronization issue during a neutral pose as shown in Figure. Despite my efforts to resolve the issue by changing internet connections, recalibrating, and adjusting the camera position, the problem persists.

Moreover, I have attempted to enter the system multiple times, but only succeeded once, and the video recording ultimately failed due to the synchronization problem. I have attempted to mitigate the issue by following the method suggested on the OpenCap website, where I quickly raised my hand as I have done before. Unfortunately, the problem remains unresolved. At this point, I am looking for any recommended solutions to address this issue.

If anyone can offer guidance or further troubleshooting steps, it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Hey,

Thanks for your message. You should not raise your hand for the neutral pose. The system expects a static pose.
Would you mind sharing a session ID for which it fails, or your username? We can take a closer look and see if it is an issue on our end.
You can share it privately if you prefer (afalisse@stanford.edu).

Best,
Antoine

Hi Antoine,

I would like to inform you that I have sent you the session ID and username via email.
Thank you for your support in resolving this issue.

Hi,

I would suggest you move the cameras a little bit backwards. The pose estimation algorithms are sometimes struggling when the subject is taking most of the image.

Best,
Antoine

Dear Antoine,

I have the same problem since this week. We have the same set up since a few weeks and it was always working fine. Since this week (we tried on three independent days) several times each day, I always get this error. We also tried recalibrating, turning phones on and off etc. Can you also look into my sessions? Unfortunately since I did not get beyond the calibration I can not find session data or a corresponding session ID. How do I get that?

I can give you my username though: knieschmerzen_im_volleyball. Maybe that even helps? There should be sessions from this week.

Best regards and thank you for your help,
Christina

Hi Christina,

It seems that in the last 5-6 sessions of yours that I found, only one phone was used. The error message is not very informative, but it is not working because OpenCap requires at least two phones.

Best,
Antoine

Hello Antoine,

thank you for your answer. In the forum I also read that one phone might not be connected to the internet even if the calibration shows okay. So I tried that and could resolve my problem! Thank you for your answer. Today we tried to measure again (another spot though with other hotspots) and it just did not want to work again. The calibration of the model failed. I checked several times if we have internet connection and I could browse with both phone. Would you mind checking a second time what could be wrong this time? My username is still: knieschmerzen_im_volleyball.

Thank you guys for your support! Even though I sometimes struggle with the technique it is really amazing that you offer this for free.

best wishes,
Christina

Hi, it looks like for your subject probe osp, you entered the height in cm (180) instead of m (1.8). The algorithms are therefore not working. You can edit the subject info through the webapp.

Antoine

Ps: if you are looking at volleyball, consider testing the OpenSim model with the ISB shoulder (see advanced settings).

Thank you so much for your reply! And so fast. I have not seen your answer today in the morning, but I also did not expect such a quick reply. We will definitly try tomorrow morning and hopefully it will work than again. Because when we were measuring at our place with other subjects it was fine. Probably we just entered this one wrong once and now we tried it only with this one at the osp for trial testing. Maybe a good point for the trouble shooting list :D Or to restrict the algorithm to a certain degree like not more than 3 Meters :D

I will let you know if it works tomorrow again. Thank you!
