Segment Angles

New project for OpenCap, which is a new software package to estimate 3D human movement dynamics from smartphone videos. OpenCap strongly relies on OpenSim.

Segment Angles

Post by Jeffrey Turner » Wed May 24, 2023 5:19 pm

Hello,

A part of our analysis plan for a current research project using OpenCap data is to evaluate coordination of segment angles throughout given movements. I know we have ready access to the marker coordinates (x,y,z) and joint kinematics. Is it also possible to extract segment angles across the time series? If so, how/where do I find them. In this case, specifically interested in thigh and shank angles. Thank you!

Hi Jeffrey,

We do not have utilities in OpenCap to express segment orientations in the global frame (am I understanding well that this is what you would want?). However, this is something you could do with the OpenSim API. Your question is therefore maybe better suited for the OpenSim forum: indexPhpbb.php?f=91

Best,
Antoine
