Dear AddBiomechanics team,

I've got an error message similar to this one. I'm trying to run AddBiomechanics from the attached model. I'm a bit surprised since there is no vtp.ply files referenced in my model. Do you have any idea how to solve this?

Hi David,

Internally, AddBiomechanics requires the PLY format for geometry files. If the missing files are affecting your results (e.g., the incorrect height is being detected), then try converting those files to PLY using an online converter and try again.

Subsidiary question: I realize that AddBiomechanics would not work well if there is only one marker per joint. Do you also recommend the number of time frames to be above a certain threshold?

The number of time frames is less important than the diversity of the motion. The more joint motion in your data, the easier it will be for AddBiomechanics to detect the joint locations and scale the model correctly. Obviously, motion with good diversity is more likely to have more time points, but in general the former is more important.

I understand the point about the diversity of the motion. What error would it give if the motion is not diverse enough or too slow? Would this be something like that?

But I can only upload the osim file, not the Geometry folder. Am I missing something?

Same error with a very fast and diverse motion (throwing ball feint, side step and sprint). Only 130 frames though.

Is it too short?

I see that the cut-off frequency (lowpass_hz) is defined as 30. Is it impossible to process data that is sampled below 60 Hz? Or am I missing something?

Hi David,

I'm now realizing that we do not support uploading custom geometry files. The geometry files in your model are not included in the geometry file repository in AddBiomechanics. We need a way to support uploading custom files, filing an issue for that now.

For the filtering issue: I think the problem is that the timestep in your data is too large. Internally, the "fs" parameter is calculated as:

If the timestep "dt" is too big, then "fs" will be too small for the cutoff frequency.

Concerning that fs error, does it mean that currently, no trials with a frequency under 60 Hz would work? If so, I don't understand how AddBiomechanics from SMPL sequences or from OpenCap have ever worked, since they are most of the time sampled at 30 Hz (and since the lowpass filter parameter has been around since october 10th).
