OpenGRF_v1_1 Error: "Unrecognized function or variable 'hand_r_name'" with Gait2354_Simbody

OpenGRF is a free OpenSim tool built on the MATLAB API, designed to predict ground reaction forces (GRFs). The tool accepts as input a scaled or subject-specific musculoskeletal (MSK) model (.osim) and a kinematics file (.mot) containing the generalized c

OpenGRF_v1_1 Error: "Unrecognized function or variable 'hand_r_name'" with Gait2354_Simbody

Post by Moha Fard » Sat Feb 22, 2025 4:29 am

Hi everyone,

I am using OpenGRF_v1_1 in MATLAB with Gait2354_Simbody and its corresponding data. When I run it, I get this error:

bash
Copy
Edit
Contact elements calibration in progress, please wait ...
Unrecognized function or variable 'hand_r_name'.

Error in OpenGRF_v1_1
Since Gait2354_Simbody is a lower-body model, there are no hand markers, but OpenGRF still looks for hand_r_name.

What I Tried:
Defined hand_r_name = '' in MATLAB before running OpenGRF.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Hi Moha,

Thanks for the message. OpenGRF_v1_1 only supports full-body MSK models right now, so it was trying to load a hand body and ended up with an error. We're working on a fix that should be out in the next release. In the meantime, please feel free to use any other full-body model for your research.

Thanks for understanding!

Cheers,
Andrea

Hi Andrea,

Thanks for the clarification. I'll use a full-body model for now and look forward to the next release.

Best,
Moha
