Dear Allison
My name is Chen and I am PhD student in Xi'an jiaotong university . I am using the data of Grand Challenge as part of my research .
First ,I appreciate your nice data base which helped me a lot .
Second , I have a question about the type of the implant for all competitions(especially the third Challenge competition ) ; which company provide this instrumented implant ? Can you please give me more information about the type of the implant and it company ?
Third , I want to know which patient of all Challenge competition retain posterior cruciate ligament after total knee replacement ?

Hello Chen,

I am glad to hear that you are using the Grand Challenge data.

I am checking with the research team about the implant information. I will get back to you with an answer shortly. Just out of curiosity, why do you need the information about the implant type and company?

All of the subjects in the Grand Challenge data set have an intact posterior cruciate ligament after total knee replacement.

Best Wishes,

Allison

Hello Chen,

Below you will find information about the two implant designs for the subjects in the Grand Challenge data set.

Subject JW (First and Fourth Grand Challenge Competitions):
The tibial prosthesis was a custom design based on the PFC (DePuy Johnson & Johnson, Warsaw, IN) tibial tray design. The insert was a posterior lipped PFC Sigma. The femoral component was a posterior cruciate-retaining PFC Sigma.

Subjects DM (Second Grand Challenge Competition), SC (Third Grand Challenge Competition), and PS (Fifth Grand Challenge Competition):
A custom tibial component was manufactured by Zimmer, Inc., based on the Natural Knee II (NK-II) tibial tray design. The tray and locking mechanism were identical to the standard design for implantation with a standard insert. A standard polyethylene insert (NK-II CR Congruent, Zimmer) and a posterior cruciate-retaining femoral component (NK-II CR, Zimmer).

Please let me know if you need any additional information.

Dear Allison,

I am participating in the 5th Grand Challenge Competition, and I have question that links well with the topic of the present discussion, so I will post it here.

I am interested in knowing the status of the passive soft tissue restraints in the post-op knee joint. I am not sure whether you can provide such detailed information, but in particular I would like to know the status of the medial patello-femural ligament, medial patello-tibial ligament, and medial patello-meniscal ligament after the TKR.

Best regards,
Marco

Hi Marco,

None of the patellar ligaments were cut or excised during surgery, so they are intact.

Please let me know if you have any other questions.

Allison

Thank you very much, Allison.
I have another issue, but it concerns the eTibia coordinate system, so I will open a new topic for that.
