force validation

Dear Professor D'Lima,

I am a PhD student and want to validate the model using the Grand
Challenge data, but I am not clear about the measured result of the
medial and lateral force.

Is the force calculated from the sensors using the equation you provided
the joint compressiong force, excluding joint shear force? I guess it's
not a 3D force, but I'm not sure. It's quite important because it
determines how I compare the results.

Many thanks,

Rui Xu
Rui Xu,

Would you please clarify to which equations you are referring and for which subjects/implant type?

Thanks,

I am using the data for the 4th Grand Challenge. The equations are those used to calculate medial and lateral force based on the instrumented implants:

F_medial=c1*Fam+c2*Fpm+c3*Fal+c4*Fpl;
F_lateral=(1-c1)*Fam+(1-c2)*Fpm+(1-c3)*Fal+(1-c4)*Fpl;

I want to know if the medial and lateral forces are the axial forces along the tibia.

Thanks,

Rui Xu

Rui Xu,

That is correct, these are the medial and lateral vertical contact forces which act along axes parallel to the y-axis of the tibial tray.

Thank you very much. It's quite helpful.

Best,
