PreView

Overall purposes of the project are:

1) To provide free access to a three-dimensional finite element representation of the knee joint

2) Open development of a knee model for collaborative testing and use

PreView

Post by Feras Hakkak » Sat Jan 22, 2011 1:55 am

I encountered some points with the PreView 1.4.0, that I want to share with you:

1- The material properties section doesn't show any units, just you should add numbers without knowledge about their units.
2- I couldn't use the zoom buttons.
3- I couldn't find out how to hide some parts of the model
4- Where can we define external forces like gravity?
5- What formats can PreView import as geometry or meshed geometry? Does it accept the models made in other software?
6- The Help section does not explain many features.

Thanks a lot
Feras

Hi Feras,

PreView is supported by Dr. Jeff Weiss' team at the University of Utah (FEBio and PostView as well). They have a forum at their site, mrl.sci.utah.edu, for each software package. I suggest re-posting this on the users' forum for PostView. Regarding the first point though, PostView along with most other FEA packages do not consider units. It us up to the user to remain consistent when assigning values. For Open Knee, our units of length are in mm. We also assume forces are in N and as a result masses are in tonnes. Therefore, stresses/moduli are in MPa (N/mm^2).

Cheers,
Scott
