I am starting to interview individuals at companies or in clinical practice who are using models and simulations in their products and/or workflows. As has been recently discussed, having good examples of success stories will be very informative for the committee, whether to use in a publication or just to share on-line.

Below is a preliminary list of questions I plan to ask individuals during the interview. If you have suggestions for other questions to ask or comments on the list I’ve come up with, please let me know.
  • Tell me about the development of the model used.
  • Do you use modeling & simulation as part of device design? Device regulation procedures? Actual device operation? Other ways? [additional question contributed by Ahmet]
  • What were the initial concerns of clinicians about the model?
  • What did you have to do to convince clinicians of the VALIDITY of the model?
  • What did you have to do to convince clinicians of the VALUE of the model?
  • Based on your experience, is it more critical to establish VALUE or VALIDITY first with clinicians?
