osim ligament format

Post by Jack Zhao » Sat Nov 28, 2015 5:42 am

Dear Friends:
Just one simple question:
I searched hard but no found any formal format specification of osim file (all parameters that can be set in osim).
It can be only partially found in samples. For example, I need now all ligament parameter settings available in osim. Only "pcsa_force"
or "force_length_curve" can be refered currently.

Thanks a lot to all!

Jack

Hi Jack,

In the OpenSim GUI, navigate to Help > XML Browser. This gives you a dialogue box of ALL the opensim classes that make up a model. Using the Class Name drop-down menu, select Ligament.

There is also Doxygen, which documents each class found in OpenSim. You can find info on how to use Doxygen here and the ligament documentation here.

Dear Colin:
Thank you for suggesting us the nice model for ligament!
Here the question we need to ask you is, how can we obtain the accurate parameters suitable for your ligament model for ankle or some specific lower limb part (as you know ligaments from different body part differ quite a lot in their mechanical properties),
since there few literature supporting for a specific part ?

In terms of OpenSim ligament model parameters (resting length, pcsa_force, etc), I recently reviewed and found out some literature
on experiments for the parameters (like failure load, etc) suitable for OpenSim ligament model. Also these parameters from different literature sources are quite different, such as the ultimate load and ultimate strain, for the same ankle ligament, which makes us confusing for the modeling choice. If anyone can help on this behalf, thanks so much!

Thanks a lot !
