failed SIMM to Opensim conversion

Post by Kyle Chadwick » Thu Jul 19, 2018 9:59 am

Trying to convert Deformable Femur Model https://simtk.org/projects/femur-model from SIMM to Opensim and receive this error:
Creation of OpenSim model from C:\Users\kchadwick\Desktop\DeformableFemur\deformFemur2002.jnt failed.
Executing [simmToOpenSim -j "C:\Users\kchadwick\Desktop\DeformableFemur\deformFemur2002.jnt" -m "C:\Users\kchadwick\Desktop\DeformableFemur\deformFemur2002.msl" -g Geometry -x "deformFemur2002_0.osim"]
simmToOpenSim, version 2.0.0, build date 09:22:35 Feb 5 2010
Read joint file C:\Users\kchadwick\Desktop\DeformableFemur\deformFemur2002.jnt
Joint walker_knee cannot be converted to OpenSim because it contains a [function] translation after a rotation.
This looks pretty much exactly like this bug report from 2011:
1546 https://simtk.org/tracker/index.php?fun ... 1&atid=322
but I don't see any resolution. Apparently it worked in 1.9.1, should I just install that old version to do the conversion?

Thanks,
Kyle Chadwick

That sounds like a good idea. Not sure about this particular converter or model, but some very old models must be updated using an intermediate version of OpenSim before being opened in 3.3.
