Ways to extract muscle force/line of action data or an updated plugin?

Post by Connor Gifford » Thu Dec 12, 2019 9:26 am

Hello,

I would like to use OpenSim muscle information with an FE model. There was a plugin for older versions of OpenSim (https://simtk.org/projects/force_direction) that did exactly what I need, however this version is not compatible with version 4.0. I would like to know if there is a way to do this in version 4.0. Specifically, I am looking at the transversus abdominis in the thoracolumbar model with ribcage, and am unsure how this muscle's attachments, forces, and lines of action are represented.

Thank you

Hi,

I am not familiar with the model you want to implement. If your muscle is not using any wrapping objects, then you can get the line of action from the insertion and origin points locations. Otherwise, you will need to extract the points from the muscle path.
