Installation problems with Mac

Post by Daniel Cohen » Thu Sep 03, 2020 5:36 pm

Hello, this is my first post here and excited about having found this software and group. I had a seamless install with windows but not with Mac
Late 2013 iMac Catalina 10.15.6 32 GB RAM

OpenSim-4.1-mac.pkg cant be opened because Apple cannot check it for malicious software. This software needs to be updated. Contact the developer for more information. Safari cant open the file OpenSim-4.1-mac.pkg because no available application can open it.

Im sure there must be an easier workaround

I did have a few problems the first time around following the direction to use Terminal but never really got as far as being able to actually get the software working with Mac. It's also defaulting to OpenOffice which I rarely use and have Office downloaded and used as a default.

Perhaps someone can redirect me to get a cleaner or proper install so I can use the software on the Mac.

Thank you!

Hi Daniel,

I've run into this occasionally, not with OpenSim specifically but with some other software. Recent versions of macOS are much stricter with installer security than they used to be.

After you open the pkg and it gives you this message, what do you see if you go to System Preferences --> Security & Privacy? There should be a message that lets you say "Go ahead and open this pkg".

Hope this helps,
Ross
