Errors with Downloading OpenSim 4.1

Post by Safiya Lambert » Mon Oct 05, 2020 7:16 am

Hi,

I'm unable to download OpenSim 4.1 even though I have a 64-bit Windows computer.
I keep getting error messages about opening files for writing.
It gives me the option to Abort, Retry or Ignore.
I've tried all three to see if anything will work and nothing has.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

Hello,

The subject of your message states that you're having problem with downloading the software which needs to be completed before you run the installer.

Can you send a screen capture of the error you get, how you get it and if the installation finished successfully. If there're problems with installation then downstream from that, many errors can occur. If the installation reports errors writing files then likely you don't have permission to install the software or you're installing it in a protected/system folder.

Please provide a full description of the issue so that we can help you out.

Best regards,
-Ayman

Hello,

The error occurs during installation (before OpenSim is actually installed on your machine) and it is due to failure to write a file from the distribution (LICENSE.txt) This is very likely due to permissions (you don't have write access to the folder C:\OpenSim 4.1) or that an earlier installation of the software already exists on the machine, in which case you don't need to install altogether or you need to remove the older installation. Try selecting a different folder for installation that you have full permission to, and let us know if you continue to have problems.

Hope this helps,
-Ayman
