Geometry File Concerns

Post by Ashley Chambers » Wed Mar 31, 2021 3:46 pm

I have been attempting to scale the MOBL_ARMS OpenSim Upper-Body Musculoskeletal model for weeks. The platform is unable to locate my Geometry files even though they are in the same directory file and the geometry file search path has been updated in the preferences section of OpenSim. I have tried opening the model using different computers, moving the geometry files around in my directory, renaming the folder enclosing the geometry, moving it to my desktop, google drive, and have exhausted all my methods of troubleshooting the problem. I decided to scrap this model and open up a full-body model yet am faced with the same problem and the same set of errors. "Couldn't find file "thorax.vtp" for every body segment. I am not sure how to fix this problem as I need to get past the scaling tool and run inverse kinematics on my trials. Help on fixing this error would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Hello Ashley,

I have checked this model downloaded from SimTK. And I found that if I want to open the .osim model in the 'Model file' (either 4.1 0r 3.3), it would be necessary for me to move or copy the 'Geometry file' in 'Benchmarking Simulations -- 4.1 Model with... or 3.3 Model with...' to the 'Model file' mentioned in the beginning.
Hope this can work for you.

Sincerely.

Thank you,

Now that I have fixed the geometry directory file issue, I am able to run the scale tool. This is preventing me from scaling the model further as the scale tool stops running at the "adjusting model markers" step. Do you have any advice on how to move past this?

Hello,

Geometry files are used exclusively for visualization so scaling issues are unelated. Does the model have markers? Are these the same marker names as the ones specified in the data files and setup/xml files? Did you see issues/error-messages when opening the model in version 4.0+? If any markers or bodies got renamed then the setup/xml files need to be updated accordingly. Model author/provider should take care of this since the process is non-trivial if you don't know the contents of the files and how they are related.

Hope this helps,
-Ayman
