Odd IMU IK results

Post by Gijs van der Woerdt » Sun Jul 17, 2022 11:54 am

Hi all, I have been trying to generate some motions (abductions) in OpenSim/OpenSense using an Xsens IMU system. Some results look great but others not so much (see attachment).

The problem seems to be that something goes wrong in the IMU Placer step, but I cannot seem to figure out what the problem is exactly. I am really quite sure I performed both measurements and the OpenSense steps in a similar manner. Does anyone know what could be causing these issues? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Regards,

Gijs

Hello,

You should look at the orientation of the IMUs on the model after running the IMU Placer, there's an apparent visual difference between your good and bad scenarios. If the orientation looks incorrect/doesn't match your expectation of where x/y/z should be pointing then you should not proceed to IK altogether and instead troubleshoot the IMU placement. You can visualize the raw data to investigate the differences between the good and bad scenarios.

Hope this helps,
-Ayman
