Problems under Win7 - Unexpected Exception

Post by Matthias Kunze » Sun Jun 06, 2010 2:21 pm

Hello,

after the start of OpenSim on Win7 I get an Java-Errors:
Unexpected Exception...
1) A java.lang.NullPointerException exception has occurred.
Click Show Details or see the messages.log file located in your C:\Users\Matthias\AppData\Roaming\.opensim\2.0.2\var\log folder.

2)A java.lang.IllegalArgumentException exception has occurred.
Click Show Details or see the messages.log file located in your C:\Users\Matthias\AppData\Roaming\.opensim\2.0.2\var\log folder.

I installed OpenSim correctly like it is described in the PDF. And I have the actually Java Update.

What is my problem?

Matthias

Hi Matthias,

Which JRE did you install? Please follow the steps in the forum thread
https://simtk.org/forum/message.php?msg_id=2883

and let us know how it goes.

Good luck,
-Ayman

Hi Ayman,

I use the JRE 6 Update 19, like in the thread discussed. I deinstalled the other Jre Version, install this one and then I uninstall OpenSim and installed the "OpenSim-2.0.2-win32-VC8P02.exe".
In the first moment it works without the NullPointer Error. But if I load an example modell like "bothlegs..." another error is on the screen:

"A java.lang.IllegalArgumentException exception has occurred. click show...".

Now I update the Jre to "6 Update 20" and the same is going on like before.

Thanks for your help,
Matthias

Hi Matthias,

You do not need to uninstall anything (either Java or OpenSim). You can just install a new version of the JRE and point the .conf file to use it (using full path). Hopefully this would be less painful.

Can you post the messages.log file mentioned in your post (it will show what JRE the application is trying to use). Also did you try JRE 1.6 update 16 (as this was tested and we know works).

Best regards,
-Ayman

Hi Ayman,

i got the problem in the following thread https://simtk.org/tracker/index.php?fun ... 1&atid=322

The registry (JavaSoft etc.) was still the same if I install the new Java-Update or OpenSim again.

So I just delete two things:

1. the folder .opensim (somewhere under your C:Documents and
Settings$your_user_name)
2. Entries in the registry regarding your preferences.
KEY_CURRENT_USER/Software/JavaSoft/Prefs/org/opensim

If I remove both OpenSim works correctly.

Thanks for the very fast help.
If I had more problems I come here surely to get an solution.

With best regards,

Matthias

I had the same problem under win 7 64bit - so i had to install the x86 jave runtime environment and set the in the opensim.config the path of jdk to point to my x86-java version

i use win 7 64 bit version too,but pretty sorry in my roof path of opnsim there's no such config file 'opensim.conf'.
my opensim version is 2.0

so how to run this 2.0 version under win 7 64bit?
