Opensim does not show models properly
I installed opensim on several machines and except for one (Win Vista), the other three (Win XP, Win XP, Win 7) have the problem of showing the models strangely. Every model that I open is shown like a big red ball (muscle stuff??). Any idea how to solve this? I wish I could attach a screenshot, but aparently it is not possible in this forum??

Is the "old" problem of international settings...
You must pout under windows preferences to use English US

Thank you very much. That worked. Maybe a good idea to explain these common problems somewhere in the manual or FAQ.

Sorry, can you be a little more specific about how to solve this? I'm having a very similar problem.

Hi Annie,
Please check the forum thread below for details:
https://simtk.org/forum/message.php?msg_id=1179
The problem is caused by using international settings where decimal "." is replaced by ",". If you open the application. click thru any errors, then Edit->Preferences and change "," to "." then you should be set. The other option is to change the setting of your machine to run in English/US.
If neither of these solve your problem, please let me know and we'll investigate further.
Good luck,
-Ayman

RE: Opensim does not show models properly
The only commas were for the background color (0.0, 0.0, 0.0) and marker color (1.0, 0.6, 0.8). Other than that, there aren't any commas in the Preferences section. Also, I've lived in the US my entire life (but briefly visited Australia), and the system is set to the English/US setting.
As for the problem, I am actually seeing a gray, crystalline-looking ball over the model instead of the red spheres some people are talking about. Could this mean that there is a different issue?

Hi Annie,
Could it be that you have more than one model in the display and so it's displayed with transparency?
If not, does the "crystal" go away when you hide the muscles (by double clicking on them in the navigator)? Can you change the background to nothing other than 0.0, 0.0, 0.0 just in case?

RE: Opensim does not show models properly
So in the Navigator window the only bold type says "Both Legs with Muscles."
As for hiding the muscles, I don't think I have any open. I just downloaded the program yesterday and the crystal was there as soon as I loaded the Both Legs model as directed by the tutorial. So the only things I had done were in the first few pages of the first tutorial.
Also, when I tried to change the background color, nothing happened. I tried numbers from 0.5-5.5 and the background remained black. Maybe that is indicative that something else is wrong.
Sorry to be so ignorant about all of this. Like I said, I am very new to this so it's hard for me to give more detail about what's wrong!

RE: Opensim does not show models properly
Annie,
To hide a muscle you just double click on it in the navigator, did you try that? The change to the preferences takes effect when you open a new Window (using Window -> Add View) or if you exit the application and restart it, unless you do it through the first button on the toolbar then it's effective immediately.
Hope this helps,
-Ayman

The problem is that only randomly the crystal forms. However, it is most of the time. Do you think it has something to do with the fact that I am running on a 32-bit operating system on Vista?
