optimisation of actuator location and path?

I have provided actuator to the model. The actuator paths along between the tibia or calf and foot segment. But how we confirm this path is better or not. OR how we confirm the starting point and end point provided to the actuator is correct or not. How to provide zigzag or curve path to the model.
