Calculation of scale factors within the Scale Tool

Hello
I am working currently on scaling patient specific models. Since I aim for as precise results as possible, the question has been raised whether the scale factors used for scaling with a markerset are calculated via an euclidean distance of two markers or via the relation of the individual component pairs of the location of the markers?
