opensim plotting - sum only?

Hello all! I was hoping if someone could let me know exactly what the 'sum only' option does in the opensim plotting for muscle moments etc? Does this function incorporate all muscle physiology into the curve (i.e., fibre lengths and tendon slack etc), or does it just incorporate muscle Fmax? I'm trying to plot the latter :)

Thanks!
Ashleigh

Hello,

The "sum only" checkbox is exclusively used in the plotter to decide whether to show all quantities the the user selected as separate curves or as one curve that is the sum of the Y values. This is generic to any quantities you plot/select whether from analyses or from arbitrary files you choose.

Hope this helps,

Thank you. I'm trying to produce a summed curve made up of multiple muscles, but I am trying to understand if (when summing the muscles together) this takes into consideration muscle properties? So if I produce a summed curve for knee flexor net moments - will this consider muscle fibre lengths + force + tendon slack length when producing the curve, or just force?

thanks for your help! :D

Hi Ashleigh,

As indicated in my earlier answer, the "sum only" checkbox is irrelevant for your question as it sums whatever curves you choose.

The assumptions used to generate the curves for moments are described here:
