NullPointerException when starting 1.8.1

Hi all,

I installed OpenSim on my pc (Windows Vista).

The first time I installed it, it didn't work at all, so I uninstalled it and made sure there were no directories of openSim left before reinstalling (but maybe I missed one?).
I checked the box: "set path to all users" when installing and I start the program in a compatibility-modus and as an administrator.

When I start the program I get a java.lang.NullPointerException.
Does anybody know what to do?

Thanks!
Veerle

Hi Veerle,
actually I had some problems installing OpenSim, too.
First: I get an java-error often while new models are loaded. But these errors didn't influence OpenSim and can be ignored.
Second: When I first installed OpenSim, it created its folder in the user-specifies program-folder. I installed as an administrator (run as administrator) first. I had the same error. The second installation (which worked) was installed from the administrator account (logged as administrator). Perhaps you should try it like this.

Hi Daniel,

Thank you for your fast reply! Unfortunately this doesn't solve the problem. I already installed it as an administrator. Now I created a local administrator account and reinstalled, but the same error occurs...

Hi Veerle,

When you get a NullPointerException there's a stack-trace that goes with it, can you post it so that I know where are you having problems? or please report a bug and attach the file to it.

To run the GUI actually you do not need to add the libraries to your path since the GUI is launched from a batch file that sets the Path properly, so you can check this off your list.

Did you try installing in a directory other than "C:/Program Files/"?

Please let me know,
-Ayman

Hi Ayman,

Installing it in another directory than "C:/Program Files/" doesn't help, I get the same errors.

I also tried to install it on a "windows xp"-pc, and then there were no problems... But that pc is not mine, and I would like to install it on mine, which has "windows vista"...

The log-file is:
