Assistance with gait analysis

Hello!
I am an undergraduate student using OpenSim to create a simple independent research project analyzing gait. My school is not equipped with the motion capture technology necessary to collect my own experimental data and upload to OpenSim. I am inquiring about the best way to go about adjusting existing code/data to generate my own findings.
All of the tutorials and examples I have done utilize setup files that was downloaded with the initial software installation. They allow for OpenSim to run the IK and ID tool, but I am wondering how to adjust these setup files/existing code to generate my own findings? I lack experience with coding and am new to OpenSim so any and all suggestions are helpful.
