Modify an existing joint with Matlab

Hi, for my thesis project I am using the OpenSim software. Starting from the Arnold 2010 model I need to modify the knee joint in such a way that all three rotations can indipendently move with three different coordinates. How is it possible to eliminate the joint and then create a ball joint or how is it possible to modify the spatial tranform of the existing custom joint using the matlab interface?
