OpenSim 3.3 on Windows 10

Post by Matt DeMers » Thu Jan 07, 2016 4:48 pm

Hi all,

We've been hearing reports that OpenSim 3.3 gui has been unable to launch the 3D visualizer for some Windows 10 users. If you are experiencing this problem, it is likely that a few core Microsoft libraries are missing from your Windows 10 installation. To fix this, you must install these missing libraries using the correct Microsoft VC Redistributable Installer. Don't worry. You wont need to uninstall or reinstall OpenSim. Here are the details:

1. Download the Visual C++ 2010 Redistributable installer from Microsoft.
For 64 bit machines, this is the link
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/downloa ... x?id=14632

For 32 bit machines, this is the link
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/downloa ... px?id=5555

2. Make sure the OpenSim GUI is not running
3. Double click the installer from Microsoft to run it (either vcredist_x64.exe or vcredist_x86.exe)
4. All should be fixed now. Try to run the OpenSim 3.3 GUI and load a model.

Hope this helps,
Matt

Hi all,

We have now published a new installer that includes the latest Visual C++ Redistributable installer from Microsoft. You can find the installer on the Downloads page:

OpenSim-3.3.0-win64VC13P.exe (149813 kB)

We have tested the installer on 'fresh' machines and it has (seemingly) fixed the issue. If anyone continues to have problems please let us know.

Cheers,
-James
