DIRECT CINEMATIC AND SYMULINK

Post by fabio gregorac » Wed Oct 31, 2007 9:15 am

I, M ITALIAN STUDENT..I HAVE 2 ANSWERS ABOUT OPENSIM...CAN I GIVE SOME IMPUT OF ACTIVATION OR FORCES TO MY MUSCLE MODEL??I'VE SEEN THAT OPEN SIM TAKES THE MOVIMENTS WITH MARKERS AND FROM THERE IT CREATES THE MODEL AND IT GIVES ME THE FORCES ..THE ACTIVATIONS AND SOMEONES...I WOULD WANT TO DO THE CONTRARY,,I WOULD WANT GIVE THE FORCES OR ACTIVATION IMPUT ,AND IT MUST MOVING....CAN OPENSIMM MAKES IT??
THE SECOND QUESTION IS CAN I TAKE THE SIM MODEL AND MAKE IT IN SIMULINK??I'VE SEEN THAT THERE IS A TOOL OF MATLAB,ITS NAME IS MMS,THAT TAKES THE FILE .JNT AND .XML AND IT CREATES THE MODEL IN SIMULINK,BUT IT USES THE PROGRAM SIMM 4.0....CAN MAKE IT WITH OPENSIMM??CAN ANYONE HELP ME ABOUT THIS??

Dear Fabio,

1) It is possible to run a forward simulation to predict movement given a set of muscle excitations. In addition to the muscle excitations, you need to specify the initial states of the model, which include not only the joint angles, but also the muscle activations and fiber lengths. Currently, there is not a way of specifying the muscle forces directly. In future releases of OpenSim, this might be possible. In addition, we are also planning on adding an excitation editor that will allow you to graphically manipulate the time histories of the muscle excitations. We are hoping to release the excitation editor OpenSim 2.0 in the Summer of 2008. For an example of how to run a forward simulation, look at the Gait2354_Simbody example that is distributed in OpenSim 1.0\examples folder. Look at the setup file subject01_Setup_Forward.xml and the associated input files in particular.

2) We are planning to make it easy for researchers to call OpenSim models from Matlab. To do so now would require a fair amount of programming from the user. It is possible that connectivity to Matlab will be more fully supported in OpenSim 2.0, which, again, we expect to release next Summer.

Hope this helps,
-Ayman
