Planned support for Intel Xeon Phi?

The functionality of OpenMM will (eventually) include everything that one would need to run modern molecular simulation.

Planned support for Intel Xeon Phi?

Post by John Chodera » Tue Mar 19, 2013 11:42 am

Hi!

Is support for Intel Xeon Phi planned?

TACC Stampede is now operational, and features Dell PowerEdge C8220 nodes with Xeon Phi coprocessors:

We do hope to support it eventually, although we haven't specifically looked into it yet. We don't have a processor to test on yet.

Hi Peter,

Were there any updates with running OpenMM on Xeon Phi?

Thanks,
Max

We spent quite a while working on Xeon Phi support, but were never able to get acceptable performance out of it. It's possible that a future version of the hardware will work better. But on the hardware we had, you were better off ignoring the Xeon Phi and just running on the CPU.
