OpenSim 3.3 "Open Model" --> Crash

Post by David Reichert » Fri May 04, 2018 4:24 am

Hi All,

I installed the latest version OpenSim 3.3 64-bit on a Windows10 PC (64bit based). The program starts without problems, but as soon as I press "File --> Open Model" resp. "Ctrl + O", the program crashes without an error message. It doesn't even open a window in which you could choose the directory of your model, OpenSim just closes and that's it.
I already tried the 32bit Version, Version 3.2 but had the same issue. Microsoft Visual C++ 2013 and the latest Version of Java are installed.
I'd appreciate if someone could help me with this. Thanks!

PS: I just attached the logfile I got when starting OpenSim with the CMD.

Its been happening something similar to me all day. I can open a model and scale it, but when I try to anything else it crashes and closes. Sometimes I am browsing for a file to load and closes without me doing nothing. Is there a bug or some wrong with the source code of openSim?

There may be an issue on where you have installed OpenSim. The log file has C:\Program Files\OpenSim 3.3\bin on your path- did you install OpenSim to program files? If so, try to install to C:\OpenSim 3.3.

OpenSim usually works fine for me but today everytime I try to domething, browse or load a file this happens .. opensim54.exe has stopped working
A problem caused the program to stop working correctly.

We had something similar happen to someone recently- A W10 update affected their Java environment.

The user fixed the issue by downloading and installing the latest Java JDK (though we suspect that Version 8, update 162 works best), then put this version on your path.

uninstall OpenSim and reinstall not in program files. Edit your environment with rapid environment editor. to make sure that there is only one instance of both OpenSim and Java on your path.

If that doesn't work, install OpenSim on a different computer. If it works there, look at the environment differences between the two machines.
