Changing Speed of walking

Post by Shubham Goyal » Sat Jul 27, 2019 9:16 am

Hello ,

The default speed in OpenSim for walking is 1.2m/s . Can anyone help me in changing these values to some lower and higher speeds

There is no default walking speed in OpenSim. The speed at which a model is walking depends on how you are generating your simulation. To change the walking speed, you could provide different data (if you're performing an inverse simulation) or change the controller (if it's a forward dynamic simulation).

Hello Thomas,

Thank you for the clarification, but I have started using the software just recently.

I particularly was working with the intermediate example given for reducing the metabolic cost , and in that documentation page the speed was given 1.2m/s.

Here is the link for the same, can you tell me the changes I have to do or the additional steps in this tutorial example to change the speed to my required speed

Hi, Shubham-

The gait speed is determined from the subject experimental marker data, so there is no way of changing this speed. If you would like to do a similar analysis with a walking gait that is faster or slower, you will have to find data (marker or coordinate) from a subject that is walking faster or slower.
