Definition of the Knee Kinematics

Post by Kang Li » Fri Feb 26, 2010 9:40 am

In the current gait2392 Model, the knee translation is defined as a function of knee flexion. I am wondering if the knee translation is the contact point location relative to the femur center of rotation or something else.

I go through the literature listed in the model file but cannot find any papers having a figure to show the bell shape relations between knee tibio-femoral translation and knee flexion angle.

Does anyone have any idea about the knee joint kinematics definition and can kindly explain more clearly?

Thank you in advance.

Kang,

Please consult the schematic (on the Wiki):

for an explanation of what the attributes used to define the joints mean. The curves specifying the relation between the translation and rotation at the knee are from Scott Delp's Ph.D. thesis (1990).

Hope this helps,
-Ayman
